Navigation Guidelines

  • We encourage every0ne to read through this page before beginning to navigate the Chism family genealogy information that we have gathered over the past 20 years.
  • Guidelines on using the data published:
    • Pedigree Chart
      • These web pages allow navigation by clicking on the links on the "Home" page and on the names shown in the blue color as well as the arrows on the right or left side of the graphic charts. Clicking on the name shown in blue color will display a Family Group Sheet for that person. Clicking on the small camera icons will display photos attached to the person's information.
      • Links in upper left corner in the area with the brown background:
        • "Home" - Click on this link to come back to the home page for the pedigree ancestry web pages.
        • ""Surname List" - Click on this link to see a list of all surnames in these web pages. Clicking on a surname displays the Index list of people with that surname. Then, click on a link to that person's Family Group Sheet or to the Pedigree graphic chart.
        • "Name Index" - Click on this to see the full list of all names in the web pages. The Index has links that allow going directly to the Family Group Sheet or the Pedigree graphic chart. Note that the list does not include aliases, i.e., AKAs, so finding a specific person may sometimes be challenging.
        • "Sources" - Click on this link to see the full list of sources with reference numbers that are displayed in the Family Group Sheet and the Pedigree chart.
        • "Email Us" - Click this to send us an email.
      • Links on the home page with the title "Jessie Chism Ancestry":
        • "Ancestors of Jessie Lee Chism" - Click this link to go directly to the Pedigree chart. On that chart, click on any name that is shown in color to see the Family Group Sheet for that person. Click on arrows on the right side of the page to go to the next ancestor.
        • "Surnames" - See above. This link works the same.
        • "Names" - See above. This link works the same as the "Name Index".
        • "Sources" - See above. This link works the same.
        • "Chism Family Genealogy" - Click on this link to return to the Chism Family Genealogy page on the Chism Family web site.
    • Narrative File
      • This is simply a very long, currently over 300-page, PDF file that can be downloaded and printed. It contains more details than included in the Pedigree Chart.
      • This file contains information by generation on the ancestors of Jessie Chism, the father of Betty (Chism) Floyd. Names of Jessie's direct ancestors are shown in brown color. Names that appear in other colors (other than basic black) are direct ancestors of William Floyd, Betty's husband.
      • Note that a unique number appears to the left of the names in the file and these numbers are sometimes referenced in other places in the file.
      • An index of all the names appearing in the file is included at the end with page numbers on which the names appear. Note that aliases (or AKAs) are not included in the index so sometimes it may be challenging to find a specific person if the only name known is an alias. Also, an index of all referenced places is included. Note that Chism family ancestors originated primarily in the British Isles as well as across most countries in Europe.
      • A list of all sources of the information is included at the end as "Endnotes". Small numbers throughout the file refer to these sources.
  • For anyone interested, the current software being used to maintain the genealogy database is RootsMagic. This is the latest of 4 different software programs used by us. The files referenced above are generated from the RootsMagic database, which currently contains information on over 6,000 individuals. The program also has the ability to generate the standard GEDCOM file for exchanging genealogical data between different genealogical software programs.
