Gorden Tyra
BOONEVILLE [MS] — Gorden M. Tyra, 61, of Booneville, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after a short illness.
Services were Sunday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Booneville Church of
Christ with Minister Doug Greenway and Minister Ronnie Livingston
officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park. McMillan Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
He was born in Prentiss County on Jan. 30, 1939, to M.C. and Moyese
Gann Tyra. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and served in
Mississippi Army National Guard. He was co-owner of Gold Bond Pest
Control for 34 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and lawn
work. For many years he worked with the teenagers at the Booneville
Church of Christ where he also served as a Deacon for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Martha Floyd Tyra of Booneville;
his daughter, Amy T. Blaylock of Booneville; his mother, Moyese T.
Hunkapiller of Booneville; his mother-in-law, Ruth Bolton Floyd of
Booneville; his sister, Linda T. Shirley and her husband, Jim, of Marietta:
four stepsisters, Marie Timmons of Millington. Tenn., Violet Marsh of
Atlanta, Ga., Gretchen Tidwell and her husband, Carl, of Cummings, Ga.,
and Betty Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Nicole and Justin
Blaylock and Christy and Amanda Jackson, all of Booneville; two nieces
Sonja Smith and her husband, Harold, of Marietta, and Suzette Indris and
her husband, William III of Leesville, La.; one great-nephew, Kyle Smith
of Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his father, M. C. Tyra, and his stepfather,
James E. Hunkapiller.
Pallbearers were the deacons and elders from the Booneville Church of
Christ. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Gold Bond Pest Control.
